Our son Max was diagnosed with an Optic nerve glioma in February 2013.This is a type of brain tumour behind his left eye which has caused permanent loss of vision in that eye. He has had one and a half years of chemotherapy through his port which he had fitted through surgery. His tumour had recently grown so in June he had a major 9 hour brain surgery to remove it. He is now recovering.
Max has had to go through many tests, operations, scans, injections as well as his chemo. He has been so poorly but has never once complained and has continued to be our brave boy and we are extremely proud of him. He has also organised several charity events raising thousands of pounds, took in 50 Easter eggs at Easter and made up over 22 children’s gift bags full of goodies to take into the children in the cancer unit on Christmas eve and is once again doing this again this year.
Throughout Max’s treatment we were lucky enough to be introduced to The Liam Fairhurst Foundation. They have helped us out financially through their grant scheme which has been much needed through our son’s unexpected illness and relieved some stress so we can focus on our son. They also helped us with a much needed family break to Center Parcs to create some happy memories and have time away from hospital and to forget what was going on. Max was also given some things to brighten up his day and feel like an ordinary boy again.
We have just been informed by The Liam Fairhurst Foundation that they are taking us to Disneyland Paris next year with other families which is truly magical and will be an amazing break to spend time having fun with the family. We feel very privileged to be asked and can’t thank Callum and the foundation enough for all that they have done for us. When you go through such an emotional and unexpected time like we have it has been such a support to have and what they have done for us and other families is truly amazing.
We have started fundraising for The Liam Fairhurst foundation as we believe it is such a special charity and would like to give something back. As a family who have been through such a terrible time ourselves we know exactly how much the money raised for the charity can help.
I would also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated to the charity or helped in anyway as it really does make a difference to the families you are helping.
